On Thursday 16th August Kingspan started the erection of their wind turbine in Greenfield, with the completion of blades fitted by the following day.
Insulation giant Kingspan has finally installed a 78m wind turbine at their Greenfield site, almost eight years after their initial plans were rejected.
In December of 2011, original planning applications for the erection of two, 110m wind turbines at the Greenfield Business Park were submitted to Flintshire County Council, facing backlash from residents and the wider community. The scheme was officially rejected in November of 2013, based upon the significant detrimental impact it would have on the visual appearance & character to Greenfield's landscape.
There had also been a number of other objections, including ones from John Lennon Airport, Airbus in Broughton and the MOD, due to the impact wind turbines have on aircraft traffic radar systems.
A further application was submitted in January 2017, for the erection of one wind turbine measuring 78m to tip, with the aim to supply electricity to the existing business with surplus energy going back into the national grid.
This application had addressed such issues & concerns raised by the local community, amending their original plan to install one much smaller turbine rather than two. However residents of the CH8 community are still concerned with the visual impact this is having to the coastline, whilst others have praised Kingspan for its use of sustainable energy.
